The scene fades in and we see Jay Swift inside of a classroom somewhere in San Antonio, Texas. Swift is in a mixed mood. Of course, he got to revel in his win last week to move to an astounding 8-0, but the night didn’t end as he had hoped for, or planned. Still, he’s in the best spirits he can be. Swift is standing in front of a projection screen and an overhead, as apparently he’s found one of the few public schools in the country that still use such a set up. Swift smirks at the set up as he begins to speak.
Jay Swift: Kids, this is how we made a presentation back in my day. But let’s get this moving shall we? Tonight, we are going to have a special presentation, but before I get to that, I want to address what took place last week, and also, I’d like to say quite a few words to Mr. Anthony Royal as well. Last week, I won my eighth consecutive match as my NIWF undefeated streak flashback continued to expand. Yes, I was proud of that fact, but I wouldn’t stay proud of that fact for very long, considering all the chaos and madness that took place last week once I was through with my match and that chaos you ask? A nicely planned, perfectly executed plot that caught me off guard and I have to say, that was a mighty fine plot you pulled Royal, well done. But if you think that’s going to deter me, you have another thing coming.
Swift pauses to laugh.
Jay Swift: You see Royal, I always appreciate a good war, especially when the mental side of things get involved. I’m not going to complain about last week, I’ll be a man and say that you got me. By cowardly plotting with Silvio Megala, you, at last, managed to pull one over on me. You see, you can talk about how I’m linked to Roberto Maggia, a charge that I have denied time and time again and is starting to get just as boring and repetitive as the pathetic charge that I’m behind the useless War Machines, but it’s clearly, CLEARLY obvious that you and Silvio have some pretty strong ties. You were “knocked out” and miraculously, you were able to get one over on me. That wasn’t a miracle, you were never knocked out in the first place. You fooled me, you fooled Maggia, you fooled the fans, but you’re not going to fool me again. I can see why you’d want to be aligned with Silvio, after all, he certainly has the cash, but he doesn’t have the wrestling pedigree that he once did, which is why I, quite frankly, laughed at his pathetic 10 year celebration since he was never even relevant for the last five. But that’s enough of Silvio. He won’t be there to help you this week and I’m done mentioning him for now. You can fool me once Anthony, but you don’t have any idea who you’re dealing with do you?
Swift smirks as memories from the past are starting to fill his head. He’s travelled many roads in his career, and of course, he knows exactly what he’s got to do.
Jay Swift: You see, people talk about Arizona Lightning, and for good reason. It’s predominantly been my main persona over the last six years that I’ve been competing in professional wrestling. But there’s another side of me that you haven’t met, nor seen. You’ve gotten glimpses of it, hence the whole ordeal with your birthday, but you’ve never experienced it to its full potential. For the first time Anthony, you’re going to experience the King of Mindgames. It takes a lot to bring that persona out of me, but after what you pulled last week, I realize that it’s what I must pull. You can mock my actions from two weeks ago Royal, you can say how the ruined birthday didn’t dampen your spirits. You can say that I failed two weeks ago. But you see Royal, I was merely toying with you. You haven’t experienced how mental I can me. After all, unlike a well-respected Canadian I once worked with, unlike clowns that ended up being flashes in the pan, unlike wannabe psycho sluts that talked to a baseball bat, and unlike RCH3, I am the most mentally and cerebrally brutal person that you’re going to step into the ring with!
Unlike those I mentioned above with the exception of the well-respected Canadian I once worked with, I don’t run away from a fight. My antics over the weeks were never to avoid facing you, they were simply to push your buttons. Trial and error Royal, last week, obviously, was the ‘error’ side of things, but you live and learn as I like to say. I’ll give you credit, you’re still standing…for now. Make my life a miserable mess, but many people in this business have come in and tried to do the same thing, and they’ve all failed. Even Marina Valdivia, who might just be the greatest women’s wrestler of all time, couldn’t make my life a miserable mess and she and I used to be at war with each other for YEARS. Speaking of, you know how I tweeted that my girlfriend would do a better job against Kris Destiny than you did? I was half-right actually, considering that Marina Valdivia WAS my girlfriend and trust me, she’s a far better wrestler than you’ll ever dream of being. You say you’re here to win on talent, and talent alone. Kid, in this business, it takes more than just talent to succeed. That’s why wrestlers like myself, Marina, Gemini, just to name a few, ascended to greatness rather than toil in mediocrity, because we realized that very thing. As a matter of fact Royal, you can chalk that up as a reason why you lost to Destiny. You thought your mere talent ALONE was going to win you that world title at Thunderstorm, but in the end, Destiny had far more of the extra edge to push himself right past you. Apparently, that’s a lesson you haven’t learned yet.
Swift pauses as he thinks about the time he once thought that talent alone was going to make him the greatest wrestler in the world.
Jay Swift: I was never mad Royal, honestly. I wasn’t mad until the nonsense you did last week and when you get the King of Mindgames mad, that’s just asking for a death sentence. Let me ask you this question Anthony, what did you REALLY expose last week? You claimed you exposed my non-existent relationship with Maggia, but when are you, Robert Carr and the rest of them going to get it through your thick heads that there is NO RELATIONSHIP? You said you exposed the “twisted, disgusting monster” that I am. Funny thing Royal, when the King of Mindgames is at his best, I really AM a twisted, disgusting monster, but you never exposed that, and as a matter of fact Royal, that’s a side of me you don’t WANT to expose because let’s be honest, you don’t even know what I’ve done in my career. You don’t know the many lives I’ve affected over the years. You and I have never been on the same roster for a consistent length of time until AWR. I have ended the careers of championship contenders. I crushed the throats of up and coming wrestlers and they coughed up both their blood, and the promise they once had. I, and this is a figure of speech mind you, took the proverbial hatchet and drove it in the gut of a former world champion. Haven’t you found it interesting that RCH3 hasn’t been the same since Thunderstorm and that he hasn’t been seen in quite a while? You can attribute that to what I did to him last month. Six years ago, you didn’t see much of me in the NIWF. I left the company right after you came in. You may have seen a match of mine from back in the day, but you don’t really know what I’m fully capable of.
Despite our differences Anthony, there’s one thing you said that I will agree with. We both have separated ourselves from the pack here in AWR. We’re two of AWR’s top wrestlers and this match between the two of us is something that everyone is looking forward to watching. But I don’t rely on just talent, like you say you do, nor do I rely on my own merits. I rely on the intangibles, which you have lacked for the longest time. The intangibles that you lack are among the biggest reasons why when you first came to the NIWF, and even though I left days after you came in, I remember it well, but I remember very well that not many people within that company thought that you would ever even amount to anything. You were written off as a waste of money, a failure in the making, someone that would flame out faster than Kerrie Maddox ever did. And I’ll give you your due, you have since proved ALL of that wrong, but you still don’t understand the true meaning of success! I know this, I’m a three time world champion. I won my first two world titles, and something felt empty. By the time I won my third, I had mostly shed my dark, destructive ways that had me resting on my merits. When I won that third title, I could finally say that I fulfilled everything I was ever capable of! Look inside yourself, and ask this question: how proud can you REALLY be of what you’ve accomplished? If I can guess, probably not much, if at all. I base that off of the fact that you won the Hardcore title and threw it away like a piece of garbage.
Swift pauses to shake his head. He’s always treated all his accomplishments with respect.
Jay Swift: To be honest, I don’t think you really want to beat me. I think you just see me as an obstacle to the world title. You even said you wanted to do it because you ‘had to’ do it. I had that same attitude back in the day, all I wanted was the gold, and all I saw my opponents were just stepping stones. Eventually, it caught up to me, and it’ll catch up to you as well. You can say that I’ve built up my reputation by beating “nobodies”, but of course, even you should know that the statement is far from true. After all, I had a reputation long before I ever came to AWR to begin with! And now Royal, pay attention, because what I am about to present to you is how I earned that reputation, you will see that I haven’t gotten by because of wins over “nobodies”, you’ll see how brutal the King of Mindgames can really be!
With that, Swift turns on the overhead and it flashes on the projector screen. Swift places an image of a sick, demented, former NIWF wrestler.
Jay Swift: He was before your time Anthony, so you probably don’t know this man. This is DeWolf. He’s a former NIWF World Champion, and back in the day, he was a big deal. I heard many stories of this man, I heard that he was someone you never wanted to fuck with. I heard that he was among the most evil, demented men that ever set foot in an NIWF ring and he was someone who was on his way to greatness. I remember the guy being such a huge star, and he had everything going for him, and then there was I, a young 22 year old at the time, wondering how I could possibly make a splash in this business. After all, the night I won the Provincial Championship, he was in the MAIN EVENT, for the WORLD TITLE! And in a stroke of lightning, that all changed! I viciously assaulted him as he was making his way to the ring. I busted him open! I broke his ribs! He lost that match….and he was never the same again. Oh he tried to come back, but everything he had, he lost it all in a flash because of me. Within nine days, I had won a championship, and altered the life and career of someone that could have been a legendary figure in this business.
Swift laughs as he changes out the image of DeWolf, with one of the legendary Julio Stitchez.
Jay Swift: A month and a half later, I came face to face with the Latino Living Legend himself, Julio! The man was a multiple time world champion across many companies, including the NIWF. He was, of course, already a legend, and he was still in his prime when I met him for the first time in that ring. It was a streetfight that we faced in, I even went to his hometown in Mexico and completely destroyed as much as I could, just so I could get into his head. It all worked Royal, I bloodied him, I wore him down, I BEAT HIM! Here was I, a rookie, someone who wasn’t in this business for even two months, beating a legend like Julio! Julio may have subsequently won one last world championship, but the beating I gave him that night? It took a damn toll on him, to the point that by the end of 2007, his career was OVER! A legendary career, ended too soon, and I played a major role in that happening.
He smirks as he switches out Julio for Anthony Bloodbath.
Jay Swift: Now here’s a piece of shit I just never liked to work with. You’ve most likely heard of this man, Anthony Bloodbath. He was once a great wrestler! He was once a wrestler that you could build a company around! He was once a man that a company could hang their hat on as a loyal member of the family. He had his whole life ahead of him, and despite what he had accomplished before, he was on pace to shatter title records and accomplish even more. Then, he came face to face with the King of Mindgames himself, and all of a sudden, Anthony Bloodbath the wrestler became what Anthony Bloodbath the person always was, COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!
He switches Bloodbath’s picture with that of Gemini.
Jay Swift: Now for a more recent example, Gemini. Now, I’ll give Gemini credit, he’s made an impressive comeback to the world of wrestling, but can you imagine how his life and career would have been if he never met me in the ring? Years ago, Gemini was a young man with potential and we became embroiled in a very nasty war! It involved my own personal creation, the Desert Deathmatch, where shit like cacti and scorpions were involved. It involved tables, ladders, and chairs and as you can imagine Royal, it involved a hell of a lot of blood! Oh yeah, let me tell you something Royal, Gemini is a tough son of a bitch, I’ll give him that. Eventually, the damage I did to him took its toll! He started to wear down and slide down the pecking order at breakneck speed until he eventually fell out of the wrestling loop. While he’s come back, the son of a bitch himself will admit this, the blood war that we had, probably took YEARS off of his LIFE!
Swift laughs some more as he shuts off the projector.
Jay Swift: Have you ever altered the lives and careers of that many men that had experienced success at the top Royal? I doubt it! But all four had one thing in common, they crossed me and I did what I had to do and the King of Mind Games took care of them. Just remember this lesson Royal, crossing me is the last thing you want to do. Doubting me is the last thing you want to do. Because if you decide to cross the line and the walking landmine himself, your career, your life, everything that you ever worked hard for, will be dramatically altered forever in a flash of lightning! Take that in for a second Royal, I’ll see you this Thursday! The King of Mindgames has spoken!
Swift laughs, before he turns to his left and leaves the classroom. The scene fades to black.
Jay Swift: Kids, this is how we made a presentation back in my day. But let’s get this moving shall we?
