The scene fades in and we see Jay Swift standing in the middle of an undisclosed location in San Antonio. He’s in a better mood than he was yesterday when you consider the things that he was able to get off his chest just 24 hours ago. But, he knows that he’s not done just yet. He knows that he’s got to stick the knife further in the spine of Anthony Royal and he’s getting set to do just that. Right now though, he’s on the phone.
Jay Swift: …yeah…. Hey listen, I know things between us were pretty brutal in the past, but you’re going to get something out of this too, believe me. This guy thinks that he’s so tough and all, but you and I both know that compared to me, he’s nowhere near the star he says he is. I’ll see you here in a bit, don’t forget the…
Swift pauses and laughs.
Jay Swift: …right, later.
Swift puts his phone in his pocket and he smirks. With that, the scene pans to show his location, an empty parking lot on the outskirts of the desert, right off the I-10 freeway. He then begins to speak.
Jay Swift: Anthony Royal, I hope you watched my last promo and actually thought about the type of war that you’re going to be facing tomorrow night. I hope you are having a few second thoughts about the things you decided you wanted to have the audacity to say. You see, from day one that I have been in this company, week after week, I’ve had to deal with people judging me saying that I’m still the same guy from years past in the NIWF which, for a while, I was laughing off, but then I realized that people were just too ignorant and stupid to move on. If I didn’t have to put up with the nonsense from the most moronic person on the roster, being Robert Carr of course, I had to put up with a false accusation that I was behind a meaningless, useless faction that should have never come to exist in the first place, pretty much along the same lines say, Anthony Bloodbath’s awful excuse of a K.O.C faction back in the day. But I listen to these things and I realize that it’s the nature of this business. Many people are going to put lies in the heads of the fans, many people are going to try to manipulate a situation with their words, but in the end, those same people are full of it, and Anthony Royal, you know damn well that you’re one of them.
I’ve noticed that you’ve been silent since I spoke out. Maybe you’re realizing that you’re going to be biting off more than you can chew, maybe you’re refocusing your attention and are trying to find something else that’s moronic to throw at me. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even address ALL the nonsense that you spoke in your last promo. First off, you saying that you got screwed last month with the world championship match. So you’re one of THOSE guys huh? You should know what I mean right, because the wrestling world is full of guys that make excuses for their shortcomings and blame everything else that they can with the exception of themselves. Naturally, when you fell short, you blamed it on Roberto Maggia, which is a shame Royal, because you actually have too much talent to be one of THOSE guys. That’s what separates wrestlers like me, from wrestlers like you. Even back in the NIWF, when I was the kind of man I was, I never made excuses. I never copped out of a loss, I never put the blame on anyone else. When I suffered my first loss, I didn’t come out the next week and blame someone else, I ate my loss like a man, something that you have failed to do throughout your entire career. So let me ask you this question Royal, what makes you different from THOSE guys? Why are you better than the ‘cookie cutter bad guys’ that talk about winning, glory, why the other guy is not worthy and then make up all sorts of excuses and cry like fucking bitches when they lose? I challenge you to tell me why, because from what I’ve gathered of you, that’s what you are. You’re an outdated, cookie cutter bad guy. You’re too complacent to be anything otherwise.
Swift pauses, feeling very secure that the words he spoke were undoubtedly the truth.
Jay Swift: It’s only fitting that I am here, right outside a desert because that’s pretty much what this war is going to be tomorrow night, a duel in the desert, out in the old west! You were talking about me, talking about my status as a hero and how the people look up to me and all that good stuff and you talked about it like it all just ate you up didn’t it? Why’s that Royal? Do you WISH you had that going for you? Remember when I said yesterday that I felt like something was missing when I won my first two world championships and how I felt fulfilled when I won my third? You’ve mentioned your championships, but to be honest, those championships never fulfilled you didn’t they? How is that experience, being on top of the world, yet feeling that something’s missing? It’s not a great feeling isn’t it? I’ve been there, I know how badly it sucks and I’m man enough to admit that when I had that empty feeling, it sucked. I’m not going to judge how sections of the fans see themselves, or how they pull themselves out of their problems. If I just happen to be one of those things in society that helps a downtrodden person lift their own spirits up, then that’s great! I don’t mind putting smiles on faces. But why does that bother you so much Anthony? How come you can’t answer that?
You can compare me to all these comic book heroes, which, actually that’s quite ironic Anthony, you know why? Because comic book heroes are just that, comic book heroes. If anything Anthony, it’s not me that needs to be compared to comic book heroes, it’s you, and it doesn’t even have to be heroes, it doesn’t even have to be villains, it can be ANYTHING in a comic book, you know why Anthony? Because just like you, everything that is portrayed in a comic book is FICTIONAL! It’s just as fictional as the fortitude that you claim you have. It’s just as fictional as the arrogance and confidence you display every week. It’s just as fictional as the screwjob that happened to you last month and most importantly Royal, it’s just as fictional as your chances of beating me tomorrow night. Unlike those heroes, I am real! You talk about me and you say that I am going to let the people down and you make it such a big deal. Let me tell you something Royal, I’m not perfect and the fans will understand that. It’s life. You’ll have someone that you look up to and admire, and they’re going to let you down every once in a while. Failing and falling short is part of life, and in reality, falling short means NOTHING, it’s how you RESPOND to falling short that counts. Let’s give you an example. You fell short last month in a world title match, and your response was to cry screwjob and declare war against the “fan favorites” such as myself. You couldn’t be a man and respond to a tough loss the right way, you had to take the shortcut. Sure Anthony, you can say that with your choice, you didn’t let the fans down, and you don’t care about anyone you’d let down in the first place. So, assuming that’s the logic you go by, does that mean you don’t care about yourself? You don’t know it Anthony, but last month, you let YOURSELF down, you’re just too afraid to admit it. You can’t accept failure because failure eats at your conscience like a swarm of locusts. That’s not a mindgame Royal, that’s pure fact!
I’ve slipped up a few times, I’ve let the fans down a few times, I’ll admit that. But they never left me, so you’re wrong again Royal. At the end of the day though, there’s only one person that I can’t let down, that I won’t let down, yet, I don’t worry about it so much because I know she’ll be behind me no matter what. I’m talking about my three year old daughter, who changed my life forever. Before she was born, I was like you. I hated the world. I thought I was King of Everything. While I never blamed anyone else for my own shortcomings, I hid from them by calling someone’s win over me a “fluke” all the time. I thought that wrestling was truly the only thing that I had to live for. My daughter’s birth changed all that, and I realized that I wasn’t going to get far in life being the man that I was, so I had to do what was best for me, best for her. Of course, there was a period in time where her mother kept me away from her for MONTHS, but when I finally got to see her, I was inspired. Days later, I won my third world championship and I achieved that fulfillment that I’ve mentioned previously. It changed the way I thought as a wrestler, but most importantly, it changed the way I thought as a man. I can sympathize with you a little bit Royal, you don’t have something like that in your life, and that’s exactly why you’re the kind of person you are today. It’s exactly why you hide behind excuses and lies to protect your own ego.
Swift looks around the parking lot for a bit, and then continues speaking.
Jay Swift: Anthony, have you ever heard the saying that who you know and who you roll with will determine just the kind of man that you’re going to be? Let’s take a look at who you’re associated with, and it’s no surprise that you hardly have any friends in this company. You only have two friends, those being of course, Silvio Megala and Neal Steal. I’m not going to even say a word about Steal because we all know he’ll never amount to being anything more than Silvio’s puppet, but let’s talk about your association with Silvio. I don’t need to talk about Silvio considering how his reputation speaks for itself, but the fact is, you, him, and that fake doctor all conspired to try to frame me and on top of that, try to take me out before this match were to take place. It shows how cowardly you truly are Anthony, but that’s another story. But why Silvio? Sure, we know who he is, and we know what he’s done, but haven’t you realized that Silvio Megala hasn’t done anything relevant ever since he beat Anthony Bloodbath for the NIWF World Championship? By the way, when he did that, that was WELL OVER FIVE YEARS AGO! That’s right Royal, you are associated with a man that hasn’t done jack in five years. Is it the money Anthony? Is it his reputation of the kind of wrestler he USED TO BE? Because the man you’re associated with isn’t the man that was one of IWG’s biggest commodities. The man that you’re associated with isn’t the man that was a multiple time NIWF World Champion. The man that you’re associated with is someone who, five years ago, chose to rest on his reputation and become complacent. He’s someone that relies on said reputation to get him somewhere, he’s someone that thinks that he deserves respect because of what he’s accomplished before, he’s someone who has lost the belief that hard work is necessary for success. You know what the funny thing is Royal? It’s rubbed off on you and that is exactly what you are now!
Oh it’s true. Like I said last night, you were at the bottom in the NIWF. You were hungry! You were determined! You had that chip on your shoulder! You were motivated to prove to all the naysayers in the back that you weren’t going to be another Goliath, or another Young Gun, or another Robert Carr. You took all that, and you rose to the heights that you had once reached in the past and once you did that Royal, it was all over. You rest on your laurels, expecting your reputation to get you more success. You have lost that hunger, you have lost that motivation. In the six years that I’ve been in this business, I’ve never lost that motivation. I’ve had that motivation dating back to when I won this……
Swift bends down and picks up a briefcase that wasn’t seen until now. He opens the case and pulls out the old NIWF Provincial Championship and slings it over his shoulder.
Jay Swift: My first wrestling championship. Before I won this, this championship meant nothing. But after I won it, I made it something. After I lost this, I was motivated to do even bigger and better things. I never lost the motivation to succeed. I never rested on my laurels. Remember Anthony, who you hang with, determines the kind of man that you’re going to become, and back in the day, I found that crowd that I hanged with. It was before your time Royal, a faction named the Syndicate.
Right on cue, a car pulls up behind him. Swift hears the car and he has a smirk on his face.
Jay Swift: Right on cue.
Swift turns around and watches someone step out of the car. He’s very familiar with this woman, obviously. She’s carrying something as she sees Swift and walks toward him. She doesn’t seem too amused to see him, considering there’s no love lost between them.
Jay Swift: Marina Valdivia, I’m so glad you could make it.
Marina Valdivia: Shut up Jay. I’m not here to please you, but if there’s one thing we can ever agree on, it’s that when the Syndicate was around, NOBODY could stop us.
Jay Swift: That’s exactly the point I’m about to make. Did you bring it?
Marina Valdivia: Seriously? You think I’d forget it?
Jay Swift: Show it off, when the time’s right. I’ll let you know. Just stand by me for a minute.
Marina Valdivia: (sighs) Alright.
Jay Swift: The Syndicate…..the post-success of those members have obviously made the group one of the most successful groups in the history of the NIWF. Along with me, the Syndicate contained wrestling legend Tomas Montgomery, one of the most decorated athletes that ever set foot in this sport, a multiple time world champion across many companies and he even had a degree of success in his own right in the NIWF, granted, most of his success was elsewhere, but his post-Syndicate success is a testament to how motivated and hungry we were to be successful.
Marina Valdivia: Tomas….what a guy.
Jay Swift: I know he was. Also in that group was….well, what do you know, in that group was the AWR World Champion himself, Kris Destiny! Back then, Destiny was the man that won the gold. Back when the NIWF was three brands, he actually held two titles from two brands at the same time. Granted, after the split, he had his struggles for a few years, but I’ll give the douchebag credit, he’s managed to resurrect his career. Actually, that’s another thing Marina and I can agree on.
Marina Valdivia: On what? That Kris Destiny is a douchebag?
Jay Swift: Exactly.
Marina Valdivia: I hope Kris Destiny remembers the time that I betrayed him and singlehandedly destroyed the Syndicate! HAHAHAHA! He’ll never be better than me, so he can go fuck off.
Jay Swift: Right. And finally, the other member of the group is the woman standing right beside me, we hate each other now, but back then, we were the dangerous duo nobody on Friday Night Terror wanted to cross. Marina has gone on to become a multiple time world champion since NIWF, but back in the day, she made her impact and her presence felt.
Marina then brings up something from offscreen, another championship belt from the NIWF.
Marina Valdivia: NIWF Women’s Champion bitch!
Jay Swift: You see what I’m getting at Royal? You have surrounded yourself with people that don’t have the motivation to succeed anymore, and back when I came into this business, I surrounded myself with people that were hungry to succeed, people that WANTED the gold, WANTED the glory, and WANTED to prove that they could be among the elite wrestlers in the world. At some point on the careers of all four of us, when you thought Elite, you thought Tomas Montgomery, when you thought elite, you thought Kris Destiny, when you thought elite, you thought Marina Valdivia…
Marina Valdivia: THOUGHT? Fuck you Jay, you STILL think Marina Valdivia when you think elite, I’m just…enjoying my acting career right now, but I’ll be back in wrestling sooner rather than later. (laughs)
Jay Swift: You’re full of it you know that right? Anyway, when you think elite, you think Jay Swift! All four of us had that! But have wrestling fans ever thought Anthony Royal as elite? No! And tomorrow night, I’m going to prove that and I’m going to show you and the entire world why people have never considered Anthony Royal elite! You associated yourself with a millionaire that rested on his laurels. I associated myself with a multiple time Hall of Fame member and former world champion, the current AWR World Champion, and the greatest women’s wrestler of her generation and of course, the success, as much as I’m not exactly friends with my former stablemates, has clearly rubbed off on us all! I’m a proven winner Anthony, I’m proven as elite! At the end of the day Royal, you wish you had everything that I have.
Marina Valdivia: Anthony, you’re not worthy of me even wasting a breath on. Later Jay, I’ll be rooting for you, FOR ONCE!
Marina laughs before she goes back to her car. Swift shakes his head and laughs.
Jay Swift: Anthony Royal, the duel in the desert will be vicious, but in the end, you will end up being STRUCK DOWN, ELECTRIFIED, AND BRUTALIZED by the King of Mindgames himself, Arizona Lightning, JAY SWIFT!
Swift picks up the empty briefcase, and walks off the parking lot with the case and the NIWF Provincial Championship over his shoulder as the scene fades to black.
