Standing in a lonely, deserted, darkened alley is a man who has done everything in the professional wrestling business. A man who when faced with adversity rose to the top, a man who doesn’t make excuses, a man who never settles for mediocre but reaches for excellence. Yes folks, that man is “Canada’s Hero” Dustin Weaver. Canada’s Hero is a well-known name in the wrestling business. His record would speak for itself. 83 wins and 16 losses, 3 world championships, multiple title reigns. Why would he be lurking in the shadows you ask? Why a deserted alleyway instead of out in the spotlight?
One word….. Determination.
A knee injury combined with a brief period of depression had weighed down his career. The depression spawned from his previous manager Elizabeth who had been ringside or at least nearby for every match of his entire career. 99 matches to be exact that she had been the one to watch him, to comfort him, to console him during the heard times and to build his confidence during the great. She had left and with her departure so had a part of the soul of Canada’s Hero. He wasn’t the man he used to be, he wasn’t the same physically, mentally, or emotionally.
But that was then……
Now he returns with a new sense of urgency. His window of opportunity is dwindling and this may very well be his final return to the wrestling ring. For the past 12 years he has worked every day in this business, but after a brief stay in Pro Wrestling Revival (PWR) it was time to call it quits. What happened to Canada’s Hero without wrestling you say? Well for months he stayed around the business. Training, instructing, motivating young aspiring wrestlers to reach for their goals and make it into the business. However, that only made him dwell on the past, and his own accomplishments. He needed to start over. To get away for a while. To delete the past, and Elizabeth especially, out of his mind forever.
Then she came…..
Two months later Emily entered into the picture. She was a childhood friend, someone who had grown up just a few short blocks away in Ontario. He had never looked upon her in that fashion, but when they met a spark ignited quickly into a flame. Emily, unlike Elizabeth, had never been in the wrestling business. She knew that he had previously wrestled, but had no grasp on the magnitude of the sport and the way it impacted his life on a daily basis. That would turn out to be a blessing in disguise. With no pressure placed on his head, and no sense of returning, Canada’s Hero began to live a normal life with a woman he truly loved. He honestly began to enjoy life for what it was “a journey” and not with unrealistic expectations of fame and fortune. However, he began working out again on a daily basis, and with the weight training came the agility drills, and with the agility drills came the desire to wrestle again.
With the desire……
Came the opportunity. Just when all thought of ever jumping into a professional organization again was gone the phone rang.
Canada’s Hero: Hello?
Caller: May I speak with Dustin Weaver? Otherwise known as the pro wrestler Canada’s Hero.
After hearing that comment he realized that this call would be about the wrestling business. That in and of itself surprised him thoroughly because it had been a year since the last time he had heard anyone mention his name and wrestling in the same sentence. It was a welcome sight though, something that got his blood pumping and his heart racing just a little faster.
Canada's Hero: You've got him right here. How can I help you?
Caller: I've got an offer for you.
That was exactly what Canada's Hero had secretly hoped all along. Deep down somewhere beneath the sorrow and despair that followed him after the breakup with Elizabeth stood a sense of hope and belonging in the ring. The ring had and will always be a safe haven for him, a place where he could stand and work without interruption, and without the everyday troubles that life brings. It was an escape. The word "offer" was something that he knew he couldn't turn down no matter how big or how small it may be.
Canada's Hero: Yes?
Caller: Additude Wrestling. We have a position open that we need to fill. Right away actually. We could use you this week.
Canada's Hero: Already? Now? This week??? I don't know if I can....
Caller: Say no more. Get a flight down here and meet with us. We'll work out a deal.
Canada's Hero looks over his shoulder as he places the phone down for a minute. Staring at him with an enormous grin is none other than Emily who is shaking her head up and down in approval with a phone next to her ear. Clearly she had been listening into the entire conversation. Canada's Hero takes a few steps towards her to where they are only inches apart from each other. Their smiles grow as he goes in for a kiss. The two embrace romantically for what seems like forever until he picks up the phone again still smiling.
Canada's Hero: I'll see you there.
With those words the deal was done. Canada's Hero was back in the wrestling business. It didn't take a monster incentive laden contract or a million dollar signing bonus, none of which they would be able to provide. However, it provided him with exactly what he needed. A fresh start, a new beginning, and a chance to begin his career with a new drive and a new woman by his side.
**One Day Later**
At Attitude Wrestling headquarters Canada's Hero and Emily were being introduced to management and the staff members that would frequent the buildings daily. He was given a folder with instructions on how the company would be ran and when he would begin. When looking through the folder the words "Crash" this week vs. Slick Doctor was all he could see. Everything else seemed to fade away as he realized this would be his first real match in over a year, his first shot at redemption, and against who? A doctor? He chuckled at the name of the opponent as he decided to look at his biography just to see what he could find out about his opponent.
What a joke this guy seemed to be. From the looks of his career he has had more success in the bars drinking than in the wrestling ring. The man is best known for drinking and "attempting" to pick up women. His success of even that is lacking. Well, Canada's Hero thought to himself, at least i'll get a warm up match to begin with. Someone who has little ability and no discipline. It would be a battle of two completely different styles. Canada's Hero loved the high-flying, fast paced style while his opponent seemed to prefer technical grappling. Canada's Hero was disciplined in all facets of life and worked each day to improve while Slick Doctor seemed to be content in sitting on his ass drinking a beer.
It would be a battle of two different styles.... opposites you could say..... and only one man would come out on top.
That man....
Canada's Hero!!!
