The scene opens with a close up of the AWR World Heavyweight Championship. The beautiful gold belt consumes the whole camera shot. Suddenly, a voice is heard off camera.
[red] Voice: Beautiful, isn’t it? [/red]
Suddenly, a hand picks up the championship belt. The camera pans out to reveal the champion himself, Anthony Royal, dressed in a custom suit. Royal places the belt gently on his shoulder and takes a seat on a leather couch as he begins to speak.
[red] Royal: To some, this is just a belt, nothing more, nothing less. To others, it’s just something to beef up a resume. But to me, it is a lot more. To me, this is a symbol of my greatness. To me, this is a license to call myself the absolute best wrestler on this planet. To me, this championship belt makes me THE star of the AWR. Unfortunately, the powers that be here in the AWR don’t want me to the star. Isn’t that right, Silvio? [/red]
Royal smirks at the mention of Silvio.
[red] Royal: You see, last week, I put the pieces together and realized that Silvio’s absence isn’t the big mystery that people are making it out to be. Instead, Silvio has disappeared in an attempt to push me from my peak at the top of the mountain because, as I stated, Silvio Megala is jealous of Anthony Royal. [/red]
Royal lets out a small chuckle before continuing to speak.
[red] Royal: Let me give you all a little history lesson. About four years ago, I was the champion in a little company you may have heard of, the NIWF. I was on top of the wrestling world. I was the best. And, as the best tends to do, I was main eventing a pay-per-view, when, unannounced and uninvited, Silvio Megala showed up to do “guest commentary.” In reality, Silvio, jealous of the fact that I had surpassed his level, showed up to steal my spotlight. So, long story short, I caved his head in with a steel chair. Now, four years later, it seems Silvio is trying to garnish the vengeance he was never able to achieve by stealing away the one thing that means more to me than life itself, the AWR Championship. Now, being the businessman that he is, Silvio can’t simply show up and challenge me for the championship. Instead, he has hand selected a warrior to do his dirty work for him. And who is this warrior you ask? None other than Kris “Fa Sho” Destiny. [/red]
Royal’s demeanor turns intense and angry at the mention of Fa Sho.
[red] Royal: That’s right folks, the man you all love, your hero, is actually doing the dirty work of the man who makes you all physically ill to your stomachs. I mean, let’s put two and two together here. Last week, I was forced to put my title on the line against Red Randal. Why? Why Red Randal? What did he do to earn a championship match? Nothing, right Silvio? You see, Silvio hand selected Red Randal to wrestle me last week not to take my championship, because let’s face facts, Randal had no chance to really beat me last week. Instead, Silvio pitted me against Randal with the hopes that the bruiser would do severe damage to me, making me a sitting duck for his boy Destiny to beat me, embarrass me and take everything from me this week on Crash TV. Well guess what Silvio, it didn’t work, because here I am, healthy as can be, ready to stomp Kris Destiny into the ground like the piece of trash that he is. And Silvio, when I do, I want you to come out of hiding, show your mug on live television, admit that you’re jealous of me, admit to my superiority and accept that fact that I am your World Champion. [/red]
An arrogant smile creeps across Royal’s face as he rubs the championship belt that is resting on his shoulder.
[red] Royal: Now of course, I could sit here and talk about Silvio Megala all damn day, but the fact is, he’s not the big picture right now. It’s not him that I’m stepping into the ring with this week on Crash TV. It’s not Silvio Megala who I am defending my championship this week. No, it’s his hand-picked warrior, one of the all-time greats, Kris “Fa Sho” Destiny. [/red]
Royal’s face becomes very stoic as he mentions Destiny.
[red] Royal: When the doors of the AWR reopened, and when the two of us both came under contract, we all knew it would come to this. We all knew that, sooner or later, there would be an epic clash between two of the titans of the wrestling world. We all knew that Anthony Royal and Kris Destiny would, at some point, face off for the richest prize in the game. Granted, we waged war not long ago, but this time, it’s about so much more. This time, the winner leaves with the championship, and the loser leaves with nothing. Kris, I think it’s pretty clear that when it comes to the AWR, you and I are the cream of the crop. The two of us, we’re 1A and 1B. The only question is, who’s A, and who’s B. That’s what this match is about. It’s not just about who’s the champion. No, it’s about who is the absolute best. Kris, I am. I am the absolute best wrestler on this roster, and on this planet, and this week, I prove it when I beat you. [/red]
Royal glares into the camera with incredible intensity as he continues to speak.
[red] Royal: Kris, I called you one of the all-time greats, and from the bottom of my heart, I absolutely mean that. But, week after week, I hear you running your mouth, talking about how good you are, talking about what you’ve done in this business. But, my question Kris, is, what have you done lately? Absolutely nothing Kris, nothing at all. You had the same chance that I had to be the first ever AWR Champion and, guess what, you blew it. You didn’t get the job done. Where I succeeded, you failed. I look at you Kris, and I see one of the all-time greats who, well, to be quite frank, has really lost a step. Are you familiar with Hemingway’s classic “The Old Man and the Sea” Kris? In case you’re not, let me give you a bit of exposition. “The Old Man and the Sea” focuses on an old man named Santiago. Santiago is a fisherman. But you see Kris, it’s been 87 long days since poor Santiago has caught a fish. Now you may ask yourself, what do I, the great Kris Destiny, have in common with a feeble old man who is losing all ability to do the one thing he has done his entire life. Well Kris, much like you, Santiago used to be great. He used to be the best fisherman in his entire village, much like you used to be the best wrestler in the business. But, just like his skills have abandoned him, so have yours begun to abandon you. You are just not what you once were. Kris, even with your diminished skills, you are still one of the best in the world, but when one of the best, comes across THE best, one of the best is crushed under the greatness of THE best. [/red]
As Royal speaks, his eyes waver towards the championship belt resting on his shoulder, which he sees as a symbol for him being THE best.
[red] Royal: I know Kris, that in your heart, there is hope and optimism. I know in your heart, you think you still have what it takes to be the best. So did Santiago, and on the 87th day, Santiago hooked a giant marlin. A fish so big, he would be a made man for quite some time. A fish so big that his fellow fishermen who say he’s lost his touch would have to suffer through the bitter taste of eating their words. This is your championship match Sho. You’ve heard the murmurs that you don’t have what it takes, but you see your shot at this (nods to the title) as a way to prove them all wrong. If Kris Destiny beats Anthony Royal, then, by God, he is the best wrestler in the world. YOU are the best in the world. You are the king of the mountain. Those who doubt you will have to shove their words up their rectums, giving them the most unpleasant enema of their lives. But here’s the bad news Sho. Santiago, he failed. For two days he waged war with that fish, and when he was finally able to kill it, sharks helped themselves to the carcass. He battled, he fought, but ultimately, he failed and had to watch sharks devour his prized catch. I said it last week Sho, and I’ll say it again, I’m a shark in open water, and you can try with all your might, but there is no way that you will fight me off. I’m too good Sho. I’m too damn good. You’re like a baby seal in open water and I’m a great white. Sho, I am going to EAT YOU ALIVE! The only difference between you and Santiago is that, even though Santiago failed, he was received as a hero for his great efforts. You won’t be Sho. No, you won’t be showered with praise for your efforts. You won’t receive a hero’s welcome. None of that Sho. Instead, you will simply be seen as a shell of what you once were. You will be seen as nothing more than another man who thought he could compete with Anthony Royal, got in over his head and failed miserably. That will be your legacy Sho, my inferior. [/red]
Royal’s eyes are filled with rage and intensity. It is clear that he is ready to battle Sho.
[red] Royal: Sho, I said it earlier, and I meant it, I respect the hell out of you. Everything you have done in this business, I respect. I understand and respect how great you still are, even if you’re not on the level you once were. But Kris, I’m better. I’m the AWR Champion, and despite that, people doubt me. People doubt that I’m the best. People run their mouths and say that I don’t deserve to be in this position. You can blame those people for the hell I put you through on Crash TV. Because if…no, when, I beat you Kris, then the talk will have to cease. There will be no choice but for them to shut the hell up and accept me as the best. Kris Destiny, you aren’t what you once were, and I’m going expose that fact to the world. You can beat Robert Carr, you can beat Jay Combs, but I’m Anthony Royal. I’m the shining star. I’m the AWR Champion. And I am going to show you and the rest of the world exactly why that’s the case. Sho, I’m going to teach you a lesson in the ring. I’m going to show you what it really means to be the best. Don’t take this as arrogance, because I know this isn’t going to be a walk in the park. I know that you are going to push me not to my limits, but miles and miles past them. I know you have some pent up anger towards me, and I know that you’re going to take that out on me on Crash TV. I know you’re going to make me feel possibly more pain that I’ve ever felt in my life. But when it’s all said and done Kris, it won’t matter. When it’s all said and done, my hand will be raised in victory, MY championship will be around MY waist, and you will be lying on your back, staring up at the lights, knowing that possibly your last chance at ever being a World Champion again, has slipped through your fingers like sand through a sifter. The World Championship is the only thing that matters to me Kris. If I had a child, I would throw it in front of a moving vehicle to keep it. What do you think I will do to you to keep it around my waist, Kris? Whatever it takes. Morals aren’t a thing to me Kris. I don’t care what I have to do to beat you, I’ll do it. This is the end of the road for you. You entered the AWR believing that you can hang with me, but I’m going to show you that that is simply not the case. There is only room for one at the top of the mountain; the other must plummet down to the bottom where the rest of the wannabes sit. Grab your parachute Kris, because it won’t be me taking that deadly fall, it will be you. And once I beat you Kris, there will be nothing left for you to say. There will be no more excuses for you to make. There will be nothing left for you to complain about. Once I beat you Kris, you will have no choice but to look into these lovely blue eyes and say “Anthony Royal, you are my superior. You are simply better than me.” [/red]
Royal lets out a laugh as he places his arm on the championship belt and clutches it tight, almost as if he’s hugging it.
[red] Royal: This is the holy grail Kris, the richest prize in the game, the right to call yourself the absolute best. And at Crash TV, we do battle for this. We wage war for the right to be called the best. Who really is the star here Kris? Who is the better man? I am, and it doesn’t matter what army Silvio has behind you, that fact is what will allow me to persevere. Kris Destiny, it’s going to be a battle. I hope you’re ready, because I am. In this match, you think I have everything to lose and nothing to gain, but that’s not true. I have plenty to gain. The respect I deserve. The credit I deserve. The vindication I need. I am the first champion in this company’s history, and the people, and the powers that be, they owe me respect. And when I beat you Kris, when I leave you lying in a heap in the middle of MY ring, they will have no choice but to give it to me. Kris, you’re not my opponent this week, you’re my opportunity. My opportunity to take what is mine. My opportunity to solidify my position as the absolute best, and Kris, I will not let you step in my way. Kris, I will make you bow before me, because I am the king of the AWR. [/red]
Royal suddenly stands up. He removes the AWR Championship from his shoulder and places it against the camera, much like the way the promo began.
[red] Royal: Beautiful, isn’t it? Well Kris, take a long, hard look, because this is as close as you’re ever going to get to MY championship. Just accept it Kris. Accept your fate of being second best. Accept your fate of coming so close, but falling oh so short. Accept your fate of failure. Accept your fate Kris, as being forever known as 1B. Kris, accept your fate, and your fate is…LIGHTS OUT! [/red]
Royal pulls the championship away from the camera. He glares at it and then kisses it as the scene fades to black.
[red] Voice: Beautiful, isn’t it? [/red]
